I finally said “screw it” to the DLC in Dark Souls and pushed through to the final boss of the game. I tried fighting him a couple of times on my own, but didn't meet with any real success. The problem I had was that his attacks were both fast and powerful, so even with my high endurance, heavy armor and high-stability shield, he would still blow through my stamina in a couple of shots. What's more, he attacks are fast enough that you rarely ever even have the opportunity to hit him back. His attacks do lots of damage as well, so my normal strategy of super heavy armor + powerful, unwieldy weapon didn't work either. Ultimately, I decided to do it co-op. I spent about 45 minutes fruitlessly attempting to connect to a friend of mine online before we finally connected. With a pair of players, the final battle is actually kind of easy: one person distracts, blocking and dodging his attacks while the other uses magic or hits him from behind. It only took 2 tries to finish him off. I can't help but feel a little disappointed that he was so easy, but then I remember that that after one year and roughly 120 hours I've finally finished Dark Souls, and that makes me feel great.
