Plunging deep into the dreaded Catacombs, after a couple of hiccups and one or two run-ins with annoying mono-cycle skeletons, I made my way to, and defeated quite easily, Pinwheel, the 1st boss of the dungeon, but after that is where the frustration starts. Unlike in most other areas, there are no readily apparent shortcuts in the Catacombs nor is there a bonfire directly after the boss. Instead, you are forced to fight through the pitch-darkness of the Tomb of the Giants only to die and lose the (admittedly, not many) souls you acquired from the boss because the bonfire in the Tomb of the Giants is actually hidden off the beaten path. After half a dozen tries and a trip to the internet to find an insane one-way-trip downwards shortcut through the Catacombs (in a video aptly entitled "F&#$ the Catacombs") I finally made it to the out of the way bonfire. Of course, that wasn't the end of my troubles, as the Tomb of the Giants is filled with (you guessed it) giant skeletons, giant crawling skeletons (who can kill you in a single attack), and miniature Pinwheels. Eventually, like all routes to bosses, you discover the way that minimizes fighting, time, and damage and ultimately lets you fight the boss at full strength. The boss himself, Gravelord Nito, took me a few tries mostly due to his skeleton minions keeping me off guard, but once I figured out how to not draw the large ones in and kill the small ones (divine weaponry), it was actually a pretty easy fight. Now that I have collected all 4 major boss souls, all I need to do is decide whether to tackle the DLC or finally finish the game that has taken me two attempts on different platforms over the last year to get to the end of. I'm leaning towards the latter, but I know that if I don't play it now, I will probably never get to experience the new content.
