After finishing the Duke's Archives/ Crystal Cave area, I went to another recently-opened section of the game into a place near the Demon's Ruins. Almost immediately I was waylaid by a fiery version of the Asylum Demon. He has the same attack pattern as before, but more of his attacks are area of effect and they do fire damage. I was killed once, but defeated him on my second try. No big problem. I explored a bit more and after finding a shortcut back to Quelaag's Domain I discovered a new bonfire and a fog beyond it. Through the fog I encountered the Centipede Demon and nearly killed it on my first try, but ultimately failed. After that, things went way downhill. Another 7 or 8 unsuccessful attempts later, I got frustrated enough to stop playing for the night. This is a boss that I'm sure a lot of people will have no trouble with, but he is the first boss in the game that I can actually consider cheap and unfair. His attacks have little in the way of consistency: one attack in particular does between 1 (blockable, no damage) and 3 (breaks defense, almost entire life bar) with no discernible differences in the attack. He also has a grab move with incredible range (practically a one hit K.O.) for when you are far away from him, a largely unblockable foot stomp for when he is close to you, and the room is almost entirely filled with lava, so you pretty much have to fight him in an area that is barely larger than he is. With the help of Knight Solaire (I didn't have any luck finding another human player) I have nearly beaten him twice, but both times he ended the fight with his cheap grab move. This is the kind of thing that can very easily stop me from finishing a game, especially with Battlefield less than a week away and Skyrim only a couple more after that.
