I haven't played Gears of War in years, but a friend of mine picked up a couple of copies of the Gears of War Triple Pack (actually just 2 games and a bit of DLC) so I decided to play through the first again before tackling the sequel for the first time. So far as I've played, it's still a fun game, although its flaws are much more glaring than I recall them being in 2006. The "one button for everything" approach makes me roll when I want to sprint, sprint when I'm trying to get behind cover, and generally gets in the way more often than I would like. What is surprising is how well the visuals have held up over the years. Gears of War was certainly a looker back in the day, but I never really thought much of the art style, although that is clearly what is holding up the now five year old game now.
