I finally decided to upgrade my mouse to a Cyborg R.A.T. 9 gaming mouse. My Logitech MX-1000 has faithfully served me for the past 5 years or so, but with the prospect of building a second proper computer growing closer and closer (I'm doing an incremental upgrade path, and I'm about half way through buying components) I needed to get another mouse anyway. At any rate, after putzing about for a while, getting everything to work properly (the mouse is a performer, but it's like a super car: it'll only work properly in the right circumstances) I had to get used to the cursor movement, since the RAT 9 is much, much more sensitive than my old one and what better way to do that than with a game of Unreal Tournament. It's fast-paced action requires both precision and speed with split-second decision-making: the perfect proving ground for my new gaming hardware. Surprisingly after only one round, I was used to the high DPI and killing like a pro: garnering several killing sprees and multi-kills against adept bots. I need more time to get completely used to the new shape, but my first impressions are largely positive and I hope that the adjustments will allow me to form the mouse into a comfortable shape for my hand.
